Bihar CM Nitish Kumar parries queries on exit polls predicting BJP's victory in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh

PATNA: Bihar CM and JD(U)’s de facto leader Nitish Kumar on Tuesday parried queries about the exit polls predicting his former ally BJP’s victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly polls.

Majority of exit polls have predicted a huge victory for the BJP in Gujarat, the home turf of PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, while the party has been shown to have a slight edge over the Congress in Himachal Pradesh.

"Janata Malik hai" (the voters are our master), said Nitish, who have, for the last three months, been working to unite opposition parties against the BJP at national level to give a united fight against the saffron party in the 2024 general elections.

When asked repeatedly for his comments on exit poll, the CM asked, “Do I ever say anything in such matters.” He also said that all should wait till the date of poll results on Thursday.

The CM was responding to media queries after paying tributes to Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar before his life-size statue, installed near the Patna high court, on his death anniversary.

Expressing his deep reverence for Ambedkar, Nitish said, “All sections of the society remembers Babasaheb for his role in making the Constitution of India. I knew everything about him since childhood. All people have great respect for Babsaheb. He made the Constitution in a better way. Babasaheb talked about empowerment of all sections. He created opportunities of education for the weaker sections of the society.”

State’s water resources minister Sanjay Kumar Jha, building construction minister Ashok Choudhary, transport minister Sheela Kumari, panchayati raj minister Murari Prasad Gautam, law minister Shamim Ahmad, labour resources minister Surendra Ram also paid floral tributes to Babsaheb on his death anniversary.
