Bihar CM Nitish Kumar asks officials to fill up vacant post of teachers in all schools

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Friday asked education department officials to expedite teachers’ recruitment process and fill up vacant posts of teachers in all schools - right from primary to higher secondary.

While reviewing the progress of different schemes of the education department during a meeting at ‘Sankalp’ hall of the CM residence, Nitish said, "Wherever there is dearth of teachers, new appointments must be made immediately so that students do not face difficulties in study."

The CM also said the Centre has so far not released its share in different schemes of the education department to the Bihar government in the current financial year. He asked the education officials to send reminders to the Union government, asking their officers to release its share to Bihar.

Addressing the meeting, Nitish said several steps were taken in the state to bring a reform in the education sector. Large number of primary and middle schools were opened in all 38 districts of the state. New buildings were constructed in the schools. Higher secondary schools were opened in each gram panchayat across the state. Now, boys and girls can avail education up to higher secondary (Plus 2) in their own panchayat.

The CM further asked the officials to give special focus on improving education-level of the girls. “Improvement in the education-level of girls will lead to decrease in the fertility rate. Bihar’s fertility rate has decreased in recent years,” Nitish said.

He also asked the officials to give special attention to the education of the girls belonging to the Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, extremely backward classes and minority communities.

While reviewing the progress under the Bihar Student Credit Card scheme, Nitish asked the officials to implement it in a more effective way so that a maximum number of needy students take benefits under the scheme, which was started under the ‘Saat Nischay’ programme. A sum of Rs 4 lakh is provided to a student under the Bihar credit card scheme to pursue higher education.

Earlier, additional chief secretary (education) Deepak Kumar Singh, through a presentation, informed the CM about the progress made in different schemes of his department.

Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, finance minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, education minister Chandrshekhar and all senior officers of the education department were present at the meeting.
