Bihar: Aurangabad man tests negative for monkeypox

PATNA: The sample of a 20-year-old man, who had returned to Aurangabad from New Delhi recently, tested negative for monkeypox, confirmed Aurangabad district magistrate (DM) Saurabh Jorwal on Monday. "His sample was sent to AIIMS-Delhi for monkeypox test on Sunday and it has come negative," he said.

The man had symptoms like rashes, fever and extreme weakness, and he was isolated at his home. It was the second sample from the state sent for the monkeypox test. The first sample of a 22-year-old youth from Gaya was also sent to AIIMS-Delhi on August 2 and that too had come negative.

At present, a list of 15 centres including AIIMS-Delhi where the samples can be sent for monkeypox test, has been provided to the district authorities. "We are working on setting up a facility for this test in the state. Talks are on with IGIMS and they have been asked to do the homework and inform the health department," said an official.

So far, nine confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in the country, while a suspected case was reported on Monday. The suspected patient, a seven-year-old from Kerala, had returned from UK. Of the total nine cases, four are from Delhi and five from Kerala.
