Biggest takeaways from Titans’ 4th padded practice of training camp

The Tennessee Titans took part in their latest practice of training camp on Friday, which was also the team’s fourth padded session.

Like yesterday, the weather wasn’t working in the Titans’ favor, as rain fell throughout. However, without any lightning popping up, Tennessee was able to keep the session outdoors this time around.

And that was bad news for the offense, which saw the quarterbacks have issues throwing the ball, and wide receivers have issues catching it.

Obviously that’s not ideal, but these are the types of things teams have to practice in order to prepare for the inevitable game or games where the weather doesn’t hold up.

On top of the rain and offense’s performance, there was some injury news to talk about, as three players did not participate in practice, while two others left early.

Via Jim Wyatt, Titans Online: “Kristian Fulton twice broke up passes intended for recevier DeAndre Hopkins in the 1-on-1s, once with Hopkins trying to go up high to catch the ball with one hand. Fulton has not backed down in this competition. Tre Avery won twice in this period, and so did Sean Murphy-Bunting, Kevin Byard, Otis Reese IV, Anthony Kendall and Monty Rice.”

Wyatt: “Defensive back Elijah Molden showed a lot of spunk on the final play of the 1-on-1s, as he wrestled the ball out of Okonkwo’s hands as the two fell to the ground. Both players slid across the wet grass, onto the sidewalk, and nearly into the feet of fans on hand watching under a tent.”

Malik Willis to Treylon Burks a bright spot

Wyatt: “Quarterback Malik Willis completed a beautiful deep ball to Burks during a late team period, and he was victimized by a McMath drop on a strike across the middle. I had Willis at 4-of-9 on the day in 7-on-7 and team periods combined, and I have him at 40-of-69 in six days of camp in 7-on-7 and team periods combined.”

Wyatt: “Quarterback Will Levis started out practice wearing gloves on each hand, but by the end of practice he was glove-less. Like the other QBs, the conditions weren’t kind to Levis, and he finished the day 3-of-9 in the 7-on-7 and team periods combined. I have Levis at 38-of-64 in the 7-on-7 and team periods so far in camp.”

Wyatt: “Levis earned some praise from running back Derrick Henry during a late two-minute period. After an inside run by Levis, Henry stepped in from behind and gave Levis a hand slap, and words of encouragement. Through his ups and downs, Levis has shown some spunk, and I think his teammates have noticed.”

Kicker update

Wyatt: “Kicker Trey Wolff was 6-of-7 in a field goal period, with makes from 33, 40, 47, 52, 33 and 43 and a miss from 46, Wolff misfired on a 55-yarder to end a two-minute drill, which made him 6-of-8 on the day. Wolff is now 32-of-36 in camp. Kicker Caleb Shudak didn’t kick in the team period today and he’s 27-of-29 in camp.”

Wyatt: “Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair keeps earning mentions in here because he keeps making plays on the practice field. Al-Shaair met Henry in the backfield on one play, and then he met Hassan Haskins in the backfield on another. Al-Shaair was once again around the football all day.”
