Oakland Raiders

Josh Jacobs remains unsigned ahead of Raiders appearance on “Hard Knocks”

One of the Raiders three first-round draft picks has yet to sign with the team. According to Vic Tafur of the The Athletic, negotiations between the Raiders and running back Josh Jacobs are not going well. The hold up seems to be over the timing of the payout of his signing bonus.

“There is a growing sentiment that Jacobs will not be at camp when the rookies report on July 23,” Tafur wrote.

Training camp starts for the Raiders on July 23, but this also marks when filming begins for HBO’s documentary miniseries “Hard Knocks,” which will follow the Raiders throughout training camp. It’s possible that we’ll see a holdout between Jacobs and the Raiders unfold during the course of the series.

The Raiders hope that Jacobs is a player who could help offset the loss of RB Marshawn Lynch, and take some pressure off of QB Derek Carr.

Los Angeles Chargers

An unexpected rookie standout

The Chargers had a new defensive playmaker emerge during their rookie minicamp. Undrafted free agent safety Roderic Teamer had quite the two-day stretch, intercepting three passes over that span.

“We have a free agent that’s making a lot of plays right now out there,” Chargers DC Gus Bradley said regarding Teamer. “He seems to be around the ball quite a bit. That’s what you hope to see, the guys that understand the defense so that you can see their instincts.”

Teamer is a former Tulane Green Wave standout. The Chargers already have star S Derwin James and second-round pick Nasir Adderley on the roster. A third player entering the fold adds another weapon to an already potent secondary. Keep in mind that padded practices have yet to take place, but this is an encouraging for the Chargers, who will look to top the Chiefs in the AFC West in 2019.

Denver Broncos

Broncos OLB Von Miller’s quest to break NFL’s all-time sack record

Miller is 102.5 sacks away from breaking Bruce Smith’s record for the most career sacks in NFL history. In an interview with USA TODAY’s Lila Bromberg, Miller revealed his pursuit of the record.

“Whenever you set out to do something, you just want to be the best,” Miller told USA TODAY. “I’ve got an opportunity to do something great.

Miller has 98 career sacks in eight seasons with the Broncos. The 30-year-old would need to average roughly 13 sacks per season in order to reach the record within the next eight seasons. Chasing the record is a daunting goal for Miller, but also a worthy endeavor.

The Chiefs extended RT Mitchell Schwartz this offseason — rewarding a player that routinely faces off against Miller. In his last five games against the Chiefs, Miller has managed just 0.5 sacks. Improving against the Chiefs will be crucial in Miller’s ability to top Smith’s 200-sack record.
