'Biggest myth' - Jamie O'Hara and Jason Cundy clash over Fabio Carvalho's Liverpool winner vs Newcastle

talkSPORT presenters Jason Cundy and Jamie O'Hara clashed after Fabio Carvalho's 98th-minute winner for Liverpool against Newcastle.

Magpies debutant Alexander Isak fired the visitors in front before Roberto Firmino dragged the Reds level after the break. Referee Andre Marriner allocated a minimum of five minutes of added time at the end of the second half following a mixture of time-wasting from Eddie Howe's side, a number of injury stoppages and substitutions.

Liverpool's corner was eventually swung in before it pinballed to Carvalho who then rifled a volley off the underside of the bar to hand the Reds three points.

The win for Jurgen Klopp's side was their second successive win following their demolition of Bournemouth – in what proved to be Scott Parker's final game in charge of the Cherries.

But there was more drama at Anfield on Wednesday night as the former Fulham midfielder netted his second goal in as many games, a day after his 20th birthday. O'Hara was adamant that the referee was wrong to allow play to continue past the allotted additional time.

However, Cundy laid the blame on the visitors.

Full transcript from the talkSPORT Sports Bar debate below:

Jason Cundy : "It's got nothing to do with the ref."

Jamie O'Hara: "What do you mean? They scored in the 98th minute."

Jason Cundy: "Sorry, did the ref score? Did I miss that? Who scored?"

Jamie O'Hara: "They give five added minutes. Nick Pope goes down for 30 seconds, he plays till the 98th minute. The ball goes out for a corner, he should blow up, he's allowed the corner to happen. There's a reason you have added time and if it's five minutes, it's five minutes."

Jason Cundy: "No, no, no. Minimum of five minutes. If the referee still wants to be playing now... It's under his jurisdiction how long he decides to play."

Jamie O'Hara: "You have five minutes added time, unless there's another sub, long injury. Nick Pope went down for 30 seconds, he played on till the 98th minute."

Jason Cundy : "Nick Pope was trying to create a bit more of an injury and going down."

Jamie O'Hara: "You don't carry on playing for two-and-a-half-minutes."

Jason Cundy: "Defend the corner, defend the corner. Newcastle have got no one else to blame except themselves. I hate this, I hate this blame culture about the referee. Here's who you blame, you blame Newcastle and the players not dealing with the set-piece."

Jamie O'Hara: "Big club mentality. It's a big club, like Sir Alex Ferguson used to get it, Liverpool get it all the time. Klopp time."

Jason Cundy: "Okay, so who scored the goal?"

Jamie O'Hara : "[Fabio] Carvalho."

Jason Cundy: "Who didn't defend very well?"

Jamie O'Hara: "Newcastle."

Jason Cundy: "Well you've not mentioned the referee once yet."

Jamie O'Hara: "Well, I did mention the referee at the start because the corner shouldn't have happened. "

Jason Cundy: "Did the ref take the corner?"

Jamie O'Hara: "It shouldn't have happened."

Jason Cundy: "Why not?"

Jamie O'Hara: "Because it was overtime. I understand Newcastle should've defended it better but they're going to come away from that thinking 'hang on a minute, we played to the time that was designated on the pitch and the ref give them extra time."

Jason Cundy: "I'm sorry but this one of the biggest myth's in football that the full-time whistle is always blamed if there's a late goal. Someone has got to take the blame but the team who concedes it, never ever, ever blames themselves. It's always the referee and you can ask about that, and I agree with you the referee did a bit more time, but do you know what? Suck it, deal with it, defend it and you're okay."
