Biggest Ireland scam yet as social welfare details being stolen by fraudsters

The Immigrant Council of Ireland has issued a fraud warning as refugee and asylum applicants have been inundated with scam calls.

Fraudsters have been calling applicants pretending to be from the International Protection Office asking for their PPS numbers.

The IPO has confirmed that these calls are a scam and they would never ask for PPS numbers over the phone.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland said on Twitter: "Scam alert

"Some international protection applicants have reported getting calls from the International Protection Office asking for their PPS numbers.

"The IPO has confirmed they are NOT making such calls and would never ask for a person's PPS # over the phone."
