Under-23s head coach Andy Reid says he gets a thrill from being part of “a bigger vision” at Nottingham Forest.
The former Reds midfielder had returned to the City Ground little more than a year ago to help coach the club’s academy players.
He was then appointed boss of the 23s earlier this year, having been in charge on a temporary basis following the departure of Chris Cohen to Luton Town.
And Reid is well aware of the responsibilities which come with the role.
Forest have a history of bringing talented players through the ranks, but also place an emphasis on developing the youngsters off the field, too.
“We are fully aware that not every player we have will make it into the first team here, and that is just the way football is unfortunately,” Reid told the Newark Advertiser.
“But we do have a big responsibility to the fact that if they don’t make it here for one reason or another, that we give them the best opportunity to make it somewhere else.
“We want to give them a good football upbringing and we want to guide them in the best way we can, so if things don’t work out for them they know things aren’t over.
“There is a bigger vision at the club and that is what I get a real buzz from — seeing players develop and kick on, seeing them make strides in the first team - or even when players leave here and they make their debuts for other teams, that is the most satisfying part of the job.”
Reid says he had no hesitation in returning to his old club when the call came.
“When I initially came back to the club I worked with Chris (Cohen) who is a good friend of mine, and that was obviously a big pull for me,” he said.
“To also come in and work in an academy that I am very familiar with was great and when you look at the successes the academy has had over the last 20 years, I wanted to be a part of that day in, day out.
“When the opportunity came up to be involved again it was a no-brainier.”
