'Bigger joke than Donald Trump': Arsenal fans react to VAR decision vs Aston Villa

VAR has once again been a huge talking point in the latest round of Premier League matches and Arsenal fans were unimpressed on Sunday evening.

In the opening minute of their clash against Aston Villa, John McGinn rifled a thunderous effort into the net which Bernd Leno could do nothing about.

However, following a lengthy four-minute review, the goal was eventually chalked off as Ross Barkley was judged to have been in an offside position.

That would usually have brought a sigh of relief from fans but, after another weekend full of unnecessary drama, it was once again too much.

Plenty of supporters took to social media to share their thoughts on the decision and bemoan VAR, which seems to be unable to stay out of the headlines.

The fact that Arsenal fans are complaining about the technology after a decision that went in their favour tells the story itself, with fans completely fed up with its use.

It came on a day where VAR had already taken centre stage for controversial decisions due to penalties awarded for handball in Leicester City's victory over Wolves and Liverpool's draw with Manchester City.

Villa did take the lead later in the first half though, with Bukayo Saka poking the ball into his own net at the far post to give the Gunners plenty of work to do.

Having fought back from behind in midweek in the Europa League, Arsenal have to do the same again to avoid defeat in a match where they would be expected to take all three points.
