Biggar Rugby Club reveal pitch shut down ahead of planned season kick-off

Biggar Rugby Club have closed their pitches to all organised sessions until August.

The decision has been made to ensure safety of players and coaches until the club can reopen its facilities.

A club spokesman said: “This will allow the club to make the necessary arrangements to ensure player and coach safety going forward.

“The club and players are very keen to get back into action as soon as is possible and it is with this in mind that the club has made this decision.

“On resumption of training there will be various procedures which will have to be in place and followed, to ensure players, coaches, parents and visitors are as safe as possible.”

The club have appointed Neil Laing as Covid co-ordinator, who has experience of having dealt with the foot and mouth crisis .

Biggar are still hopeful of persuading Scottish Rugby to overturn their decision to deprive them of the National League 1 title.

It is hoped that a motion to overturn the null and void decision will be given an airing at the SRU AGM on Saturday, August 29.

The club’s own AGM will take place on Wednesday, July 29, and at the moment will be held on Zoom.

Should it be allowed, the meeting will be hosted in the clubhouse.

Reports will be posted on the club website should the meeting be on Zoom.
