Biggar Rugby Club clinch community club of the year award

Biggar Rugby Club has been named Glasgow North Community Club of the year in Scottish Rugby’s Development Awards.

The awards were held digitally on two of the regions’ respective Facebook pages, in light of coronavirus restrictions.

Biggar has provided opportunities to play rugby regardless of sex, age or experience since 1975, offering senior, ladies’, girls’ and boys’ youth rugby, mini, micro and Biggar Bairns, for pre-school children.

The club has been a Tartan Touch venue for three seasons, attracting over 100 participants on a weekly basis.

Pitch development in 2015 has increased accessibility to the extent that South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture operate the local sports hub from the club.

The award came before Biggar were stripped of their West Region League One title after the SRU deemed the season "null and void."

Glasgow North regional director Peter Burgon said: “We feel very lucky to have so many incredible volunteers across the region.”
