Discord groups across the world should prepare their walking shoes as the newest indie darling, Big Walk, just dropped. Created by House House, the same developers behind Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk is a co-op game about communication, where a group of up to twelve players can walk and talk together.
While ‘walking sim’ might not sound especially enticing, and the word ‘friendslop’ doesn’t always invoke excitement in players for a new indie game (how many of us have bought multiple $5 games only for the friend group to ditch it after one session?), Big Walk has been turning heads since its announcement, and now that it’s officially out, the reviews have been universally positive.
What is Big Walk?
Big Walk is a brand-new indie game by House House, and it’s mostly about hanging out with friends while walking and talking. Well, there’s a little more to Big Walk than just the “walking and talking” but it is a core piece of the gameplay. The main gameplay loop is actually puzzle solving, as each puzzle a group completes unlocks keys that open up new areas or make helpful new items available.
While this might sound like just another ‘friendslop’ game – a term applied lovingly here to that highly specific genre of indie game, Big Walk takes a more laid-back, meditative approach to hanging out with friends in a virtual space. Unlike games that emphasize the scream-and-run style of friendslop (think Lethal Company, R.E.P.O., or Content Warning), Big Walk is about finding new ways to communicate with your friends.
Use proximity chat, and when too far away, communicate through bullhorns, signs, and flares to navigate the open world of Big Walk. The game can host up to twelve players, so no friends should feel left out from a lobby.
Critics adore Big Walk
The critical response to Big Walk has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s no surprise that the developers behind such a well-known and beloved game like Untitled Goose Game would come out with another indie darling, but it’s something worth celebrating nonetheless.
Currently on Metacritic, Big Walk sits at a 94, putting it above recent releases in 2026 like Mina the Hollower, Sektori, and Forza Horizon 6. The positive reviews highlight a few key parts of the game – communication, discovery, and well-crafted puzzles.
For PCMag, Big Walk feels “like a digital ‘third space’” for friends to simply exist with each other in, while Polygon went so far as to say Big Walk is the best multiplayer game of the year in their review, which mostly chronicles the misadventures their team had while working through puzzles. For Eurogamer, the true core of the game was “the frequent joys and occasional frustrations inherent to human communication.”
While the Metacritic score will more than likely even out as more reviews come in, such a universally strong positive opinion from the offset means that casual gamers worldwide have an excellent new choice for their Discord night lineup.
