What do they do?
Star Enterprise Work and Play runs nightclubs for people with learning disabilities that are safe and inclusive, under its 'Under the Stars' brand. The nightclubs provide an opportunity for people to socialise, build their confidence so and to raise awareness in the wider community. Customers use personal budgets to pay to attend the club nights and the training workshops that the organisation also runs.
Who are they?
Ruth has been working in the learning disability field for over seven years in the voluntary sector. She is the chair and has been employed by the organisation since May 2010. Ruth has a degree, and a professional certificate in management and training qualification. Ruth is creative, energetic with a determination to succeed.
Why were they selected?
The judges and UnLtd felt that the approach was innovative, and that the model was solid, with a clear market and with real potential for growth. They also felt that the combination of the team's passion and commitment with the support Big Venture Challenge can provide could work well.
