Big Time Boxing USA Returns To Detroit With Top Contenders In High-Stakes Bouts

DETROIT — The second part of “Big Time Boxing USA,” a new series produced by Salita Promotions, will take place on Thursday, March 28 at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit. The bouts will feature top contenders in their respective divisions taking the ring. The action will be televised live on DAZN.

In the main event, which starts at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, 2016 Olympian Juan Carrillo of Colombia will defend his undefeated record against veteran Quinton Rankin in a 10-round light heavyweight match. In the co-main event, Vladimir Shishkin, the No. 2 contender in the IBF super middleweight division, will make a comeback to take on the relentless Mike Guy.

The live event’s tickets are now available and may be bought in person at the Wayne State Fieldhouse Box Office or online HERE. The Detroit Pistons’ G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, plays its home games at Wayne State Fieldhouse. This will be the venue’s second boxing event; in February, “Big Time Boxing USA” made its debut there.

“March 28 is going to feature two fighters on their way to a world title in talent packed exciting divisions,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions.

“Juan Carillo, with an outstanding amateur career, is coming off a career best win and is ready to put the division on notice. Vladimir Shishkin has been gunning for Canelo Alvarez and with all the happenings in the division, that time is coming soon,” he added.

Representing his home country of Barranquilla, Colombia, Carillo (11-0, 8 KOs) has made a name for himself in the light heavyweight division since going pro in 2019. In his last fight, the 31-year-old defeated Richard Vansiclen, who had never lost before, to win the WBO Inter-Continental title and advance to face Dmitriy Bivol.

With a record of 388-23, he was one of Colombia’s most accomplished amateur athletes and made it to the second round of the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2016 Olympics. In addition, he earned silver at the 2014 Central American & Caribbean Games and gold in the 2012 Colombian National Games, 2012 Pacific Cup Tournament, 2011 Colombian National Championships, and 2010 Colombian Youth National Championships.

Rankin (21-8-2, 16 KOs) began his professional career in 2011 and has battled many well-known fighters. Rankin, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, faced up against both the current champion, David Morrell Jr., and the former longstanding champion, Chad Dawson, just in 2019. Rankin stopped four of his opponents during his remarkable six-fight winning streak that followed the Morrell bout. In September 2023, he most recently lost a decision against opponent Deon Nicholson.

Shishkin (15-0, 9 KOs) is ranked as the IBF’s top super middleweight fighter in addition to being recognized as Ring Magazine’s #6 contender. Should he maintain his winning ways, he hopes to challenge Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight world champion, for the championship.

After a successful amateur career, Shishkin went professional in 2016 and is currently fighting out of the revitalized Detroit boxing scene under the tutelage of the legendary SugarHill Steward. The 32-year-old scored a remarkable victory in December 2022 when he defeated former world champion Jose Uzcategui in a nationally televised fight by unanimous decision. Most recently, in round two of last September, Shishkin defeated Ramon Ayala.

Guy of Los Angeles (12-7-1, 5 KOs), who has remarkable wins over Marco Delgado and Denis Douglin, will confront him. Guy’s career has seen him take on a staggering array of elite opponents, including Ali Akhmedov, Junior Younan, John Ryder, Jesse Hart, Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Demond Nicholson. Notwithstanding his impressive record, Guy has only ever been stopped once in his career, and that was during the last round of the fight.
