Big Ten men's basketball leads nation in attendance for 41st straight year

An average of 12,235 people showed for per Big Ten men's basketball game last season, tops in the country, according to the NCAA.

It marked the 41st straight year the Big Ten led the nation in men's basketball attendance. A total of 3,119,823 showed up for the league's home and conference tournament games, the third straight year that number was north of 3 million.

Wisconsin was sixth overall and led the 11 Big Ten schools in the top 37 with 17,286 per game. Maryland (16,628) followed at seventh. Indiana (16,363) was ninth; Nebraska (15,427) was 11th; Michigan State (14,797) was 13th.

Purdue (18th), Iowa (23rd), Ohio State (24th), Illinois (30th), Michigan (33rd) and Minnesota (37th) rounded out the Big Ten's top teams in terms of attendance.

The conference drew 1,628,102 fans for conference games, the third year in a row it topped 1.6 million.

The Big Ten, ACC and SEC were the only conferences with an average of at least 11,000 fans per game.

Kentucky (23,461), Syracuse (21,181), Louisville (20,846), North Carolina (18,067) and Creighton (17,412) were the top five teams in average attendance.
