Big Sparra Cafe reopens after being forced to close during roadworks

A popular cafe in Dumbarton East have told of their delight to be back serving customers after temporarily shutting due to nightmare roadworks.

The Big Sparra Cafe on Glasgow Road has thrown open its doors again after the six-week long closure of the road meant owners could not afford to keep the business open.

A number of outlets on the usually busy street hit out at the ongoing works, with many reporting a dramatic loss in trade since SGN closed off the Greenhead Road junction to carry out emergency gas works. The project will see the replacement of metal gas mains with a new plastic pipe.

But it’s business as usual now the works have come to an end.

Don Cunningham, who shut up shop in June, said: “We are delighted be back open.

“As soon as we opened back up we noticed the traffic has been consistent with before but I think that’s because we had quite a loyal customer base.

“While we closed the shop, we were hard at work doing other things as we have a coffee company too so we were focusing on that.

“It is great to welcome our customers again.”
