Big Scarr dead: Rapper dies aged 22 as Gucci Mane confirms his death in touching tribute

Memphis rapper Big Scarr has died at the age of 22, fellow musician Gucci Mane has confirmed.

The star - whose real name was Alexander Woods - was part of Gucci Mane's 1017 Records and rumours first circulated of his death on Thursday evening.

The Shade Room initially reported his death in a touching Instagram post, uploading a pic of the musician before adding: "Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time."

Gucci Mane then seemed to confirm the rumours in a heartfelt post of his own. He shared a trio of images of the young star - two of which he was performing - and wrote: "This hurt. I’m a miss you @bigscarr."

No official statement has yet been released by local police surrounding the news of his death.

However, as news continued to circulate, more fans and fellow musicians took to social media to pay their respects.

Jamaican-American podcaster and YouTuber DJ Akademiks, 31, posted a tribute on Twitter, simply writing: "RIP Big Scarr."

And fellow 1017 label mate Enchanting posted on her Instagram Stories with apparent confirmation as she penned: "'Ion wanna talk. Sorry if I don't answer. I just can't." She posted the words alongside an emoji of a broken heart.

Big Scarr's rap career began in 2019 when he released the tune Make A Play. It quickly gained popularity on YouTube and led to him being signed to Gucci Mane's 1017 label the following year.

His mixtape titled Big Grim Reaper is his best known work. It was released in 2021 before a deluxe edition was released this year.

His death comes shortly after two other Memphis rappers died. Young Dolph was killed in the Tennessee state last year, while Snootie Wild was shot and died in February this year in Houston.
