Big, red truck will hand out free Pocky

April 20--We're going to break the whole don't-take-candy-from-strangers-in-unfamiliar-vehicles rule for a second. If a food truck rolls your way next month offering you free Pocky, take it by the fistful.

This is not a drill: A Pocky truck is coming to Chicago.

For the unitiated, Pocky is the name for chocolate-dipped cookie sticks packaged in bright red boxes, created in 1966 by Japan's Ezaki Glico Co. Ltd. The brand, now found on shelves in Asian markets and American international grocery aisles, has gathered a cult following. (Full disclosure: My inner 6-year-old has a special place in his heart for Pocky.)

Celebrating the snack's 50th anniversary, the Pocky Share Happiness Tour will feature playfully costumed ambassadors doling out free boxes of the addictive snack, with flavors beyond the original chocolate. The whole Pocky portfolio includes strawberry, matcha green tea, chocolate banana, and the newest flavor, cookies and cream (chocolate-flavored cookie sticks dipped in sweet cream and cookie pieces).

The catch: You have to wait a little bit. The Pocky tour will stop in Los Angeles before coming to Chicago from May 11 through June 12. Follow Pocky on Twitter for updates on where to find the truck.
