The MRT's Tao Poon station was overcrowded with frustrated passengers stuck for almost an hour due to an unexplained technical glitch in the rail system on Monday morning.
The rail system malfunction was reported shortly before 8am, in the midst of morning peak hours.
Passengers were caught in queues extending down the stairs as they waited to squeeze onto the overcrowded platform.
A small commotion broke out when they were asked over the tanoy to switch platforms.
Tao Poon became one of the largest mass transit stations in the capital when the MRT's Blue Line at Bang Sue station was connected to the Purple Line at Tao Poon station last year.
Many commuters took out their mobile phones, snapped photos of the overcrowded station and shared their frustrations.
One commuter tweeted: "Switching trains during the morning rush hour is definitely a test of my patience." Another tweeted: "Please make sure you have time to spare at Tao Poon."
Elsewhere on city streets, motorists complained about crawling traffic throughout the capital, made worse by drizzling rain.
