Big queues at Leeds vaccination centre as people rush to get booster jabs

Dozens of people in Leeds have eagerly shown up to get jabbed today as vaccination centres saw long queues.

At Elland Road Vaccination Centre, queues stretched down the road as more people were able to show up for their booster vaccines.

From today, all over-18s are able to show up to walk-in vaccination centres for their booster jabs.

All adults will also be able to book appointments for their booster jab from Wednesday, December 15 - with over 30s able to book from today.

Elland Road had been busy and seen long queues all day - as had vaccination centres across Leeds.

Most were queuing for booster jabs - but some were there to get their second dose.

Several people waiting said booking the jab hadn't taken long (LeedsLive)

A couple of people queuing told LeedsLive they hadn't been waiting long - about 15 or 20 minutes, and had had no trouble booking an appointment to get their booster jab.

Further back though, a marshal estimated it could take around 50-55 minutes from the end of the queue to get to checking in to get jabbed.

Around 3pm, people entering the car park were being advised to wait 20 minutes in their cars due to the centre being so busy.

However, people in the queue were waiting patiently - all wearing masks and socially distancing - and seemed happy to take the time to get their jab.

The accelerated rollout of booster jabs comes in an attempt to fight the increasing spread of the Omicron variant.

All adults can get their booster as long as their second dose was at least three months ago.

Bookings can be made at the Elland Road centre now.
