Big Picture Fest turns Newcastle CBD into canvas for creatives

NEWCASTLE's 12 newest murals painted during the first Big Picture Fest are intended to inject vibrancy into the city and act as stops on a one-of-a-kind walking trail.

Event organiser Becky Kiil said street art was "ephemeral" and the works between Union and Brown streets intended to stay in place for about two years, but she said some may have longer lifespans.

"It's all about vibrancy, adding colour and surprise and thought to landscapes and really trying to bring a really nice energy to the city," she said.

"We had consistent comments this has created a really interesting walking trail of the city."

She said the "engaging" event exceeded her high expectations.
