Big Picture Fest transforms city's walls

It is a weekend paint job unlike any other.

Saturday's glorious spring weather provided the perfect backdrop for the transformation of CBD building walls into spectacular murals as part of the Big Picture Fest.

Renowned international artists are teaming up with local artists to paint 12 large scale street art pieces between Union and Brown streets over the course of the weekend festival.

It's the first time Big Picture Fest has been held in Newcastle.

Festival director Becky Kiil said while COVID-19 had meant some activities had to be cancelled, it had also created a silver lining.

"We had to cancel international artists, which means it is almost entirely involving greater Hunter artists," Ms Kiil said.

The festival will conclude on Sunday.
