ORLANDO, Fla. _ On a night when the Orlando Magic did not shoot well, they leaned on their All-Star center, their defense and their free-throw shooting.
Center Nikola Vucevic recorded a game-high 27 points with 20 rebounds and Aaron Gordon had 22 points as the Magic delivered a gritty 101-91 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday at Amway Center.
The Magic (33-38) shot just 38.8 percent from the field but overcame some of that by outscoring the Hawks 26-7 from the free-throw line.
The Magic also were effective in limiting a Hawks team that had averaged 123.5 points over its previous 10 games. Atlanta committed 18 turnovers and saw its streak of 100-point games end at 12.
Trae Young scored 20 points to lead the Hawks (24-47). Hawks leading scorer John Collins finished with 10 points _ 9.9 below his season average _ before fouling out with 2:21 to play.
The win extended the Magic's home win streak to four and more importantly allowed them to keep pace with the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The Heat (33-36) rolled past the Charlotte Hornets 93-75 earlier Sunday, and the Magic's win kept them one game behind their in-state rival for the eighth and final playoff spot.
The Magic have three contests left on their current five-game homestand. They'll face the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and the Philadelphia 76ers on March 25.
The Magic have won eight of their past nine games at Amway.
Vucevic had a double-double by halftime, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. He scored the Magic's first 13 points and wound up with all of his first-half points in the opening quarter.
The Magic held the Hawks to 38.8-percent shooting in the first half as they built a 56-46 lead.
