My brother Isaac loves the Big Nate books, so he said can I write a review too! This is his review:
This is the seventh book in the Big Nate series. I have read and enjoyed most of them. In this book a new kid comes to Nate’s school. Before he meets him, Nate offers to be his buddy. Then he actually meets him and he’s plant obsessed so Nate stops being his friend because the new kid is weird and so whenever he shows up Nate’s friends go away! Will they be friends again?
I liked it because there are lots of funny bits, like “this is where I threw a pie at Randy’s face”.
I would give it 5 out of 5.
My review:
This is a brilliant addition to the series and a great chance to look at friendship from another perspective: friends don’t have to be exactly like you to be your friend – they can be anyone. This is shown when Nate is asked to buddy the new student, however, when Nate meets the kid, he is shocked not only by his timid nature but by his name which is BREKENBRIDGE PUFINGTON III.
Nate soon learns about Brekenbridge’s strange obsession with plants and doesn’t really appreciate it. Throughout most of the book, Nate has a feeling he has already met Brekenbridge. When it turns out he HAS met him he freaks. Why? Because when the were four Brekenbridge (who was known as Bobby) was Nate’s bully! Can they save the friendship?
I think this book is a great read for younger readers and really lets them realise sometimes you have to ignore what the bullies say and befriend that poor lonely kid in the corner. I would give this book a 3 and a half out of 5 .
