Big money is moving the goalposts for small clubs

While congratulations are due to Wrexham FC regaining their Football League status (Report, 23 April), spare a thought for Rochdale on the same day losing theirs after 102 years. Two ships passing in the night – the Welsh club turned around by Tinseltown largesse, the Spotlanders left broken from fending off a hostile takeover. They shared a fate as playthings of rich men’s whims.

• Although I’m pleased for Wrexham, I wonder if there’s any chance of a mention for Stockport County FC perhaps gaining back- to-back promotions in the climax to the fourth division. Stockport could still achieve automatic promotion, a playoff place or miss out altogether. I know what my money’s on.
