Big mistake: Emmanuel Macron calls Donald Trump for help after he’s stopped by the NYPD

After attending the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 23, French President Emmanuel Macron‘s motorcade was unexpectedly stopped by the NYPD while he was trying to return to the French Embassy. Sadly, he dialed the wrong person for help.

President Macron announced the formal recognition of Palestine’s statehood by France on Sept. 23, in Manhattan during the first debate of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session. However, on his way back to the French embassy on 934 Fifth Avenue, the president was stopped by the NYPD to accommodate the convoy of Trump, who was also on his way back to the White House.

After being left there stranded, Macron himself stepped out to ask the NYPD officers about the situation. “I’m really sorry, Mr. President, everything is currently blocked,” the officer replied. Macron also tried to convince the officers to let him go if Trump’s convoy is not scheduled to immediately pass by, but to no avail. At this point, Macron dialed Trump directly, quipping at him, “How are you? Guess what, I’m waiting in the street because everything is closed for you.” (via Brut)

However, the call did not really help him much. The president of one of the most powerful countries in the world was then forced to walk through the streets of Manhattan for 30 minutes on foot. During this time, several passersby chatted and clicked pictures with him, which Macron took well. However, when one man bent down and kissed him on the head while posing for a picture, Macron’s security team panicked.

The French president seemingly did not see it as a threat and asked his team to stand down. “No, no, it’s okay, guys,” he laughed. Though he did not seem to mind walking through the New York City streets, it shows that Trump was not of much use to Macron to get him out of the situation. Journalist Rémy Buisine captured the entire scene, and the video is now making waves on the internet.

The UN debate session will now continue through Saturday, Sept. 27, and conclude on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025. Hopefully, there will be better management in the remaining days.
