Big Mike's Fat Kitchen forced to shut after selling out of cheesecakes in a matter of hours

Big Mike's Fat Kitchen has had to close today (Wednesday, October 25) after running out of cheesecakes when opening day proved a major sell-out success.

The new shop, which had a queue outside before the doors even opened at 12noon on Tuesday, sold out after just two-and-a-half hours so owner Mike Jones was forced to close and he will remain shut until Thursday.

He thanked customers for their "amazing" support but added: "We were a victim of our own success and had to close after two-and-a-half hours after selling out!

"Don’t get me wrong this is a great problem to have, but with that in mind we have decided to close to work out how to make enough cakes to stay open all day with the limited space we currently have."

Mike, 30, of Bingham, is now looking at taking on staff to help him deal with demand. "I thought I could do it all but I can't," he said.

For opening day he had made 12 delicious cheesecakes in flavours of strawberry, sherbet lemon, Bailey's Irish Cream and chocoholic's heaven generously topped with Maltesers, Lindt and Reese's peanut butter cups to sell by the slice, quarter or half.

He worked through the night until 4am to bake them after putting all the necessary finishing touches to the shop took him to 9pm.

The shop, which used to be Bond's butchers in Carlton Hill, Carlton, will be back open at noon on Thursday (November 26).

Mike first began making cheesecakes in May after he was furloughed from his job with Audi. After launching Big Mike's Fat Kitchen on Instagram, he was inundated with orders for home delivery.

Some of his biggest fans are food bloggers Guys Who Dine. Half of the duo Joe Corr, of Bulwell, said: "We have been fans of Mike's since he first started delivering his wonderful cheesecakes.

"They are so deliciously smooth and tasty with a crunchy biscuit base. Our favourites are Biscoff and the strawberry. Now he has the shop we can sample even more varieties of his creations."
