Big injury blow for West Ham defender Ryan Fredericks as David Moyes counts cost of Man City loss

David Moyes has been dealt a big injury blow with news that Ryan Fredericks has damaged ligaments in his right shoulder having been forced off against Man City on Wednesday evening.

The Hammers right back collided with Rodri in midfield and was given treatment on the field before being able to make his own way from the pitch, replaced by Pablo Zabaleta.

Fredericks has been initially assessed and it has revealed ligament damage to his right shoulder, which is worse than the initial AC joint popping out which is what Moyes thought had happened when speaking at the post-match press conference following the 2-0 loss.

It is Fredericks' second significant injury of the season, having missed five weeks earlier this season with a hamstring injury suffered during the FA Cup win over Gillingham back in January.

That leaves Moyes with just Pablo Zabaleta and youngster Jeremy Ngakia as his options at right back, a position the manager wanted to strengthen in the January transfer window but didn't.

Moyes was linked with moves for Nottngham Forest right back Matty Cash and saw a significant bid for the player rejected and also for RB Salzburg right back Kristian Rasmussen.

West Ham said in a statement on Fredericks: "...is now awaiting further consultation with specialists to decide on the appropriate course of treatment, and the Club will keep supporters updated on his progress."

The club has not put a timescale on the right back's return to action.

Zabaleta therefore is likely to start against Liverpool on Monday night with Ngakia providing back up, though the academy graduate did make his first team debut against the Reds earlier this season.
