Big hint on Newcastle United senior team selection as under-23s side named

Newcastle United's senior squad is unlikely to require any Under-23 call-ups for the clash against West Bromwich Albion.

Chris Hogg's second string included Peruvian youngster Rodrigo Vilca, former Schalke 04 defender Brad Cross, forward Yannick Toure and defender Ludwig Francillette for the meeting against Stoke City at Whitley Park.

And while they could play in both games if needed it is unlikely Newcastle would take such a major risk.

United were told by the Premier League that they would have to dip into the reserves if they had multiple cases of Covid-19 but it is understood that two thirds of the squad should be available to face the Baggies.

Newcastle are staying tight-lipped on their squad but Steve Bruce remains confident he can name a side that should be able to beat West Brom.

One notable returnee to the second string was midfielder Jack Young who was handed the captain's armband after a loan stint at Tranmere Rovers.

And with no Elliot Anderson, he looks certain to be part of the first team squad again - as he was at Crystal Palace.
