Big-hearted St Peter's kids hop on their bikes to raise cash for Cancer Research

St Peter's FC's 2005 team showed that they're a class act on and off the field after hopping on their bikes to raise cash for a friend in need.

The players, assisted by friends and family, raised £500 for Cancer Research UK by taking part in the charity's Cycle 300 challenge as well as getting involved in other fundraising events.

They recently handed the cheque over to staff at Cancer Research UK's Paisley shop in Causeyside Street, and coach Bryan McDonald insists the fundraising was important for a cause which is unfortunately close to home for some of his young players.

He said: "I'm so proud of the team's achievement in supporting the Stand Up to Cancer campaign and in our own small way contributing to the invaluable work of Cancer Research UK.

"Eradicating and standing up to cancer is important to the team given the impact that it has had on their families, from receiving life-saving treatment or sadly through bereavement.

"The team heard that a friend was taking part in Cancer Research UK's 'Cycle 300'.

"This spurred them on to get involved and support them by doing some cycling whilst raising funding."
