Big hearted Scots takeaway donates mountain of food to hospital- before closing down over outbreak

Big-hearted Scots takeaway bosses donated a mountain of 60 meals to hospital staff- before closing the business over the covid 19 outbreak.

Colin and Tracey Kong have decided to put "health before wealth" and shut up their Golden Bowl Chinese outlet in Bishopton, Renfrewshire.

But the couple wanted to make sure the takeaway went out with a bang and made a feast for the hard-pressed workers at Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Eight big boxes of curries, rice, chicken and other Oriental favourites were rushed from the restaurant and straight to hungry medics on Wednesday night.

Tracey said: "We felt that at the end of the day, the NHS staff are here on the frontline so what can we do to help them?

"It was just a wee gesture of thanks, we felt it was the least that we could do.

"We just made whatever we could, I didn't tally up the cost at all but it filled eight big boxes and must have been a minimum of 60 meals all together.

"I just really hope that it was enough."

Colin said: "We are just trying to do our part in all this.

"A lot of our customers are NHS workers and we were seeing them coming off their shifts and ordering food absolutely exhausted.

"We decided to cook up as much as we could since we were closing that night- everything was then just rushed up to the hospital as hot as it could be."

The mainstay business has been with the Kong family for more than 30 years, previously ran by Colin's parents.

Colin said they had decided to close the restaurant after the massive donation- with fears over their young staff and the couple's own two young sons.

Colin added: "We put health before wealth because it was just too risky to our staff and our young boys to be open."
