Big-hearted Scots girl spends pocket money on Christmas presents for care home residents

A big-hearted West Lothian schoolgirl has helped save Christmas for the residents at local care homes.

Ebony Fraser, seven, from Livingston, stocked up on presents to make sure that all of the older people in her local community are looked after this festive season.

Her mum, Nicola, explained that they came upon the idea after sitting at home watching TV in recent months.

It was seeing elderly people being stuck indoors and not being allowed to have visitors that really resonated with the youngster and she approached her mum and asked how she could help.

The Bellsquarry Primary School pupil was suddenly struck by the idea that some older people would not be able to get any Christmas presents and the youngster decided she wanted to remedy the situation.

Nicola said: “We had been watching the news and seeing what was going on recently at schools and at nursing homes, and Ebony just turned around and said she wanted to help.

“She said to me ‘Mummy, I have a really good idea, why don’t we use the money in my piggy bank and get these people presents?’”

“So, we went down to the local supermarket and bought chocolates, boxes of biscuits and Ebony has been drawing pictures for them too.”

Ebony and her mum dropped the gifts off to grateful residents at Limecroft Care Home in Dedridge, Woodlands Nursing Home in Dedridge, and Burngrange Care Home in West Calder.

Mum Nicola added: “It’s just nice for her to get to do her own wee bit to help.”
