Big-hearted Scots boy who donated XBox to family in need collects hundreds of toys and sweets for sick kids

A big-hearted Scots schoolboy who donated his XBox and games to a struggling family has collected hundreds more toys to give to sick kids who will spend this Christmas in hospital.

Eight-year-old Alex Campbell collected hundreds of toys, 250 selection boxes and more than £100 in cash for children who are too sick to leave their hospital beds on Christmas Day.

Just last week the kind youngster donated his XBox to a family who were struggling to fund Christmas for their kids and his dad, also called Alex, said after seeing the impact of that good deed, young Alex was inspired to do more.

Alex, 32, from Irvine, said: "When he seen how happy that family were to receive that XBox he just said to me "dad what else can we do for people?'

"So he went home and found a few toys that he had that were still new and said he wanted to donate them.

"I thought maybe we could go bigger and so I put a shout-out on my Facebook page and within days we had hundreds of donations."

Alex and his dad were so overwhelmed with the generosity of, not just their local community but donations came flooding in from around Ayrshire, Glasgow and even one from as far afield as Saudi Arabia.

After collection the haul over four days Alex got in touch with the John O'Byrne Foundation and arranged for John to meet young Alex and hand over the gifts to youngsters in Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Alex said: "I already knew JOhn and knew what his foundation was all about so wewere delighted to get invvoled. All those gifts will go to children who will spend Christmas in hispital this year.

:"When we delivered the gifts it was quite bittersweet because on the one hand we felt so happy we were able to do something good but on the flip side it was heartbreaking because we know we are going home to spend Christmas with our families and these wee kids are spending it on a hospital ward. It is a hard thing to think about."

Posting on the John O'Byrne Foundation Facebook page, John praised Alex for his generosity, saying: "My foundation got an unbelievable donation of toys and 200 selection boxes plus £100 from the amazing Alex Campbell and his family and friends.

"It went straight in to the kids hospital for kids who will be in over the Christmas period.

"Big thanks to everyone who donated and helped out here we really appreciate it have an amazing Christmas."
