Big hearted Dublin docs and nurses to run marathon in a bid to save lives

A top team of Irish heart doctors and nurses will run a virtual mini-marathon to raise funds to help fight sudden cardiac death.

The specialists from the elite Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) centre based in Tallaght, Dublin, are at the very forefront in saving lives daily.

They provide free cardiac assessments to those at risk from the silent killer.

Their biggest fundraiser has always been the VHI women’s mini-marathon but with the Covid pandemic they’re now planning to run the race virtually on September 19th.

And they are asking the public to walk, jog or run with them to raise badly needed funds.

Those taking part from CRY include CEO Lucia Ebbs, Consultant Cardiologist Dr Deirdre Ward who is director of the centre, and clinical nurse specialists, Helen Connaughton and Jingli Li.

Lucia said: “Traditionally the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon was one of our biggest fundraising events of the year and we depend heavily on this event to ensure we can continue to provide free cardiac assessments and bereavement support to families that have been affected by sudden cardiac death.

“The funds raised this year will go towards our new freephone helpline that will support families affected by the loss of a young loved one.

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and those who have joined #TeamCRY this year.

“We also would like to encourage you to join us at this year’s VHI virtual mini-marathon in September.”
