A Wirral takeaway has massively improved its food hygiene rating, after a previous inspection found evidence of mice and rats on the premises.
Sun Wah, on Woodchurch Road in Prenton, was given a zero star food hygiene rating after an inspection on March 1. One part of the inspector’s report read: “The standard of cleaning at the premises was poor with a build-up of dirt, dust, debris and grease evident underneath and behind equipment and on the ceiling throughout the premises.”
But earlier this week the Wirral premises was reinspected and got a much better rating. The takeaway now has four stars for food hygiene.

A spokesperson for Sun Wah said the only reason it did not score a five star rating is that a premises cannot progress from zero stars to five at the next inspection. The spokesperson added: “All the problems found by the inspector have been solved.
“We have done everything [the inspector] asked us to and we’ve been given the highest score we can possibly get. We followed all of the guidelines and [the inspector] is happy with the standards of cleanliness.”
One issue at the previous inspection was what the inspector called “grease”, although a Sun Wah spokesperson said this was actually condensation caused by the fact the extractor fan was broken.
The spokesperson said the fan has now been fixed, which should help to resolve this issue.
