'Big favour' - Newcastle United fans in agreement as Brentford seal late comeback over Watford

Watford missed the chance to move six points clear of Newcastle United with a 2-1 defeat to Brentford this evening.

The Hornets were ahead until seven minutes from time thanks to Emmanuel Dennis’ first half opener but were unable to withstand Brentford’s constant pressure.

Pontus Jansson netted his first goal for the Bees to set up a grand stand finish, before William Troost-Ekong’s rash challenge inside the area in stoppage time handed Thomas Frank’s side the chance to claim all three points.

And in Ivan Toney’s absence, Bryan Mbeumo stepped up from the spot in the 95 th minutes to leave Watford in 17 th place, just three points ahead of the all the sides currently occupying the relegation places.

Here is how Newcastle fans have been reacting to the news ahead of their trip to Leicester City on Sunday.

@Jonny_Snaith: “With our fixtures until New Year, we really need Watford to keep dropping points. Those two late goals are extremely helpful.”

@nufcphilip1892: “Great result Brentford beating Watford. I think Brentford will lose more games now and get dragged into a relegation battle anyway. It’s wide open.”

@tfalex1892: “Watford were seven points clear of us less than a month ago and we can go level on points with them with a win on Sunday… I know who has the momentum and is playing well currently and it isn’t the Hornets.”

@StevenNUFC: “Brentford did us a big favour tonight.”

@bethnufc3: “Brentford doing us a favour there. Lovely stuff. Hopefully we can take advantage of Watford dropping points by gaining some ourselves.”

@LeeAtNFTV: “Six minutes to go #NUFC were going to be further adrift of relegation safety. Now they have a game in hand on Watford and three points behind. Sunday is full of hope now.”

@NUFCshaneo: “Massive result for us here. Pick up three points against Leicester and we’re really looking up.”

@finnaz1892: “Good result for #nufc, I still expect Brentford to drop like a stone after Xmas and they will struggle to stay up.”

@ToonArmyCalgary: “That Brentford win was a huge plus for us!”

@NufcLee89: “What a result for #nufc, need them three points against Leicester now!”
