Big Fat Gypsy Weddings star Paddy Doherty vows to quit drinking after heart attack

Paddy Doherty was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The 62-year-old reality star updated fans on his latest health battle in a video taken from his hospital bed.

Paddy said he “looked better” after having a shave and brushing his teeth, and was “feeling 100 times better”.

Updating fans on his condition, he said he was “getting there” after suffering a heart attack, which he shared in another video on Facebook.

“I wouldn’t say I’m great, but I’m getting there,” Paddy said, joking that he’ll “be back” and was trying to stay positive.

“I will be back stronger,” the visibly breathless star added.

“I’ve got to stop drinking, stop messing about, and enjoy my life the way I was enjoying my life,” Paddy said.

“A lot of people do things in life they shouldn’t do,” he explained, as he said he’d been drinking too much beer, and wasn’t “respecting” his wife and family.

He said he was “selfish” and “trapped” in his own world, and said he couldn’t deal with the struggles he faced in his life, so began drinking “just to get drunk”.

Paddy urged his fans to speak to other people about their problems, and admitted he felt “even better” just talking about the situation.

“Think positive, and God bless you,” he said, and laughed as he said he was grateful to be alive to “say those words”.

Paddy also opened up on his experience in hospital, and said he’d been waiting for “two days” in the corridor, and became emotional as he described “older ladies and gentlemen” also waiting for emergency treatment in the overwhelmed hospital.

Paddy called the nurses and doctors “angels of God” as he said he witnessed them having “no breathers” as they dutifully saw patients waiting to be treated.
