Big Fat Gypsy Wedding's Paddy Doherty slams Jimmy Carr's 'disgusting' Netflix special

Paddy Doherty has blasted comedian Jimmy Carr over a 'disgusting' joke he made about the deaths of the travelling community during the Holocaust.

The My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star slammed the much-loved comedian over the routine which debuted on his latest Netflix stand-up special His Dark Material.

Jimmy, issued a 'trigger warning' to the audience at the beginning of his one-hour special as he openly confessed that his performance contained 'terrible things' - but 62-year-old Paddy was still left horrified over the 'sick' jokes about members of the travelling community.

During the Netflix special, the 8 Out Of 10 Cats comedian joked about the horror of the Holocaust and the 'six million Jewish lives' that were lost.

As a punchline, he then made a gag which mocked the murder of thousands of members of European traveller communities during the Second World War at the hands of the Nazis.

While the joke was met with laughter and applause from the audience in the Netflix show, the same can't be said for the infuriated members of the travelling and gypsy community who were left shocked by Jimmy's 'disgusting' comments.

His controversial joke has sparked outrage from various traveller charities and anti-hate groups - and former Celebrity Big Brother star Paddy has publicly slammed the comedian for his insensitive joke.

Paddy dubbed the routine as 'disgusting' and 'a different level' in a furious rant on social media.

"How this fella has turned this into a joke is disgusting, it's a different level," Paddy raged.

"Travellers are the most hated people on the planet and what have we ever done to anyone, I don't know.

"I am truly, truly disgusted."

However, Paddy wasn't the only one who was left disgusted by Jimmy's gag.

Earlier this week, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust's chief executive Olivia Marks-Woldman hit out at Netflix for allowing the joke to air on the streaming site.

"We are absolutely appalled at Jimmy Carr's comment about persecution suffered by Roma and Sinti people under Nazi oppression, and horrified that gales of laughter followed his remarks," she penned in a statement.

"Hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti people suffered prejudice, slave labour, sterilisation and mass murder simply because of their identity - these are not experiences for mockery."

The Mirror has contacted a spokesperson for Netflix and Jimmy Carr for comment.
