'Big explosion' heard as Glasgow firebomb thugs torch cars in late-night attack

A police probe is underway after three vehicles were deliberately set alight outside a block of flats in the Garthamlock/Craigend area of Glasgow.

Officers were called to the scene alongside fire crews after the alarm amid reports of the vehicles on fire in the early hours of yesterday morning (June 22) on Porchester Street near to Tattershall Road.

One local told Glasgow Live that they were awoken by the sound of a 'big explosion' around 1am followed by another one around 1:30am, and on then spotted a well developed fire sending huge plumes of smoke into the air after looking out their window.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, with police reported to have remained on the scene until later that morning, with an investigation underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

There were no reported casualties.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 1.17am on Tuesday, June 22 to reports of vehicles on fire at Porchester Street, Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised one appliance and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting one vehicle. There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

Meanwhile a Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called around 1.30am on Tuesday, June 22, to a report of a vehicle on fire in the Porchester Street area of Glasgow. Enquiries have found that three vehicles were deliberately set on fire and an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances.”
