Big emergency service response after substance sprayed into taxi during a dispute

There was a big emergency response in north Manchester tonight after a taxi driver was spayed with a substance which was eventually found to be harmless.

The drama unfolded on Crumpsall Lane in Crumpsall just after 6pm.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said they were called at around 6:10pm to reports a taxi driver had become involved in a dispute with a passenger.

During this an aerosol was sprayed into the cab, the spokesman said and the driver feared it "may be something sinister."

As a result, police officers along with paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to the scene in the event that it was a dangerous or corrosive substance.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large number of emergency service vehicles near the junction with Delaunays Road.

However the police spokesman said that it transpired that the substance was in fact body spray and following investigations at the scene it was concluded no crimes had been committed.

No one was injured and no arrests were made he added.
