Big crowds turn out for Festival Lough Erne

Attendance was high at Festival Lough Erne over the last week as locals and tourists alike turned out for a week long programme of activities to celebrate the Erne waterways.

More than 90 events took place over the course of the week in Co Fermanagh, including a variety of water activities such as island kayaking, paddle boarding and the new hydrobikes.

A number of guided walks also took place across Enniskillen and the surrounding areas, while several food and drink tours also proved popular.

Another scheme which celebrated the food and drink scene of the town was The Dine Out with Festival Lough Erne Gift Card, which allowed people significant discounts on local establishments.

The popular festival returned this year after a hiatus in 2020 due to Covid 19 restrictions.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Errol Thompson said: “Once again, Festival Lough Erne delivered on its promise to showcase everything that is good about the lakelands be that on land or water.

“To sustain a festival for a week is incredibly difficult, but attendances at all the events and the popularity of the attractions, provided ample proof that there is an appetite for such a festival and I am confident that it will continue to grow and develop.

“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in delivering Festival Lough Erne 2021 and also to thank everyone who supported it.”
