Big crowd seen at zonal offices to file nominations

Call it the last minute rush. All 37 corporation zonal and ward offices on Friday saw huge crowds of people eager to file nominations.

In Shenoy Nagar zonal office, in just an hour, more than 70 candidates across parties filed their nominations. All 174 candidates of the DMK filed their nominations on Friday. The party had released its only a day before.

Ilaya Aruna, who is in charge for Royapuram and Chennai north zone and is contesting from ward 49, said that her party candidates were following all pandemic protocols.

“We were always prepared to file nominations and we could do it in a single day because of the support from the party and the huge network that we have developed over the years. Only three people accompanied each candidate and all our nomination papers were accepted within minutes,” he said.

Mood outside the offices was upbeat with thousands of cadre who had gathered to support candidates of their respective parties.

Candidates from some parties have already begun doorto-door campaigs. Many ministers are expected to accompany councillors on their campaign trail. Ma Subramanian will meet councillors in Saidapet on Sunday.
