Big changes planned at Nottingham Forest players' favourite kebab shop

A former windows shop could be turned into a posh new kebab shop in Mapperley.

Plans are set to go into Gedling Borough Council on Monday and if a change of use is approved it would mark an expansion for Eva's Grill, which has a takeaway and licensed restaurant in West Bridgford.

The business, in Radcliffe Road, has just celebrated its first anniversary with a generous giveaway for key workers.

Before the pandemic the restaurant offered a three-course menu as well as takeaway - and its proximity to Nottingham Forest Football Club made it a popular destination for fans, not to mention some of the players.

The rotisserie meat is chicken and, instead of lamb, there's pork. Customers can order pitta bread filled with gyros, souvlaki, shish, Greek sausage or vegetarian halloumi - or swap the pitta for chips.

The menu also features grilled dishes, including kofte kebabs, chicken fillet, and lamb and pork chops or for a taste of home-cooking, there's moussaka, veggie stuffed peppers known as gemista, or pastitsio, which is baked pasta with minced beef and bechamel sauce.

A meat sharing platter comes with accompaniments of onions, tomatoes, chips, homemade tzatziki and pitta, while the veggie version is laden with feta cheese, mixed grilled vegetables, deep-fried courgette, olives and hummus.

Completing the menu is a range of salads, such as classic Greek with feta and olives, and Caesar salad, and burgers.

If the plans get the green light, Eva's Grill will open in the former Skyview Windows shop, in Plains Road.

Owner Julian Koraqe said: "As soon as I get the change of use I'm going to start decorating it. We think if everything goes as planned it’s going to be ready in September.

"Whoever tries our food once always comes back. Everything we do is freshly prepared, displayed and cooked or grilled in the front transparent kitchen."

"Our food is very popular and in fashion at the moment as we represent the traditional Greek cuisine in combination with Mediterranean grilled flavours.

"We are looking forward to open the next Eva’s Grill restaurant and takeaway in Mapperley as a response to the high volume of orders we have received from the area.

"We think the location and surrounding areas have a lot of similarities with our current West Bridgford location."

Mr Koraqe's wife Klaudja, who runs front of house, previously worked at two Michelin-starred service at Restaurant Sat Bains for five years.
