'Big chance' - Newcastle United supporters react as Elliot Anderson handed Liverpool opportunity

Newcastle United supporters have shown their support for Elliot Anderson as Eddie Howe named the 20-year-old in the starting line-up to take on Liverpool at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies will be looking to set the record straight when the two teams meet this afternoon, with Jurgen Klopp's men being the only side to have beaten Newcastle in the Premier League this season. Howe's squad are currently on an unbeaten run of 17 top-flight matches without defeat - with Liverpool also being the last team to beat them at St James' Park.

The Reds have been uncharacteristically poor this season and find themselves languishing in 9th place. Newcastle meanwhile can move just two points behind Manchester United in third with victory over Liverpool.

However, Newcastle appear to have hit a bit of a bump in the road on their march for a Champions League place, having drawn four of their last five top-flight matches. Howe would love nothing more than for his side to get back to winning ways against Liverpool and the Toon Army will once again create a raucous atmosphere to try and roar their players onto victory.

The Newcastle manager raised a few eyebrows as he handed Anderson his first start in the Premier League, replacing the injured Joe Willock. As news of his team selection filtered through, fans took to social media to wish the youngster all the best on his first top-flight start for the club in such a big game.
