Big Brother star Cassandra Waldon, 56, dies after car accident in Rome

Big Brother contestant Cassandra Waldon died on September 25 after reportedly sustaining a head injury in a car accident.

The reality star, 56, who appeared in the very first season of the American version of the show, was in Rome when the crash happened.

Cassandra, was living and working in Italy as the communications director for the International Fund for Agricultural Development, a United Nations agency. according to TMZ .

A source for the UN told the publication: 'She never regained consciousness before her death.'

The ex-contestant, who was the first to enter the very first series of the show in 2000, was remembered by Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves on Instagram : "Rest In Peace Cassandra."

Emmy award-winning Moonves continued: "Your light will continue to shine in this world because of the way you lived your life: with class and grace.

"May your family and loved ones find solace and peace. Thank you for bringing your intelligence, warmth and wisdom to the Big Brother house Season 1.

"You are in my thoughts and in my prayers. May God Bless your soul.

TMZ reports that her funeral will be held next weekend in her home state of Maryland, US.

It's believed she was involved in the car accident two months ago and never regained consciousness, passing away on September 25.

Cassandra was the first contestant to walk into the house back in July 2000, in the first ever series of the show when it aired on US channel CBS.

She finished sixth out of ten housemates and was the first to be eliminated, later returning as part of a twist in the game. The winner was Eddie McGee after 88 days living in the house.

On the same day Cassandra passed away was also the finale of the 21st series of US BB with Jackson Michie walking away with the $500,000 prize money.
