If you only tuned into one episode of Big Brother Australia this season, chances are you caught Abiola Oreyomi napping. The 24-year-old musician regularly opted out of spending time with her housemates to snooze in the communal bedroom.
Her sleep schedule was so extreme that it was often the reason she copped nomination points from her co-stars. Viewers also expressed concern on social media, questioning whether she had narcolepsy or sleep apnea.
One fan was even caught on the livestream yelling “Abiola, wake up!” from the Dreamworld ride overlooking the Big Brother house.
Why was Abiola sleeping so much on Big Brother?
Now that the show’s done and dusted — with Abiola leaving the house $15K richer — the sleepy gal has posted a video on TikTok explaining why she was constantly having a nap.
“Alright, it’s finally time to talk about why I was sleeping so much,” she began.
“So basically, I’m on a medication that helps me for like nightmares and stuff, ‘cos I have really bad nightmares since my mum passed away.
“Basically, it makes you really drowsy and if it’s taken late at night — like any kind of sleeping medication — if you wake up early, you wake up still very drowsy and very tired and I haven’t been on it for a long period of time.”
Abiola explained that her body is still getting used to the medication and being in the house only made things more difficult.
“It made it quite hard not knowing what time it was and what time to take it and not knowing how long I was sleeping as well, so I was waking up very drowsy and not feeling rested because I was still getting used to the medication,” she said.
How does Abiola feel about being Big Brother’s sleepiest housemate?
Abiola previously spoke with PEDESTRIAN.TV about being the sleepiest housemate on this year’s season of Big Brother and admitted that the title didn’t bother her at all.
“It’s so chill because I love sleeping. I’m cool with the sleepy housemate status. I was sleeping the most,” she joked. “If anything, it makes me laugh. Though it might be worth getting a sleep study, who knows?”
She also said she completely understood why her housemates nominated her for eviction so many times.
“I’d rather people nominated me for sleeping than being a bad person or things I can’t change about myself,” she pointed out.
Look, she’s got a point.
