Big Brother host urged to get Katie Hopkins axed from show after rule break boasts

Australian TV personality Sonia Kruger is being urged to support the banning of Katie Hopkins from a celebrity version of Big Brother.

Katie landed in Australia this week and has been laughing about breaking Australian lockdown rules on her social media feeds, prompting fans to believe she should be deported from the country and removed from the Big Brother line-up.

After Katie shared a now-deleted video boasting about attempting to break lockdown rules in her hotel, one user tweeted Big Brother host and Aussie TV personality Sonia and said: "It's a disgrace. Send her back."

Another tweeted at Sonia: "Talk to your manager now. Stop the damage early. Read the room."

Another user insisted: "The list below are the people who SHOULD be objecting the LOUDEST to Katie Hopkins. TIME TO STAND UP Channel 7 employees," and tagged Sonia first in their list.

Another linked Sonia to a petition to have Katie removed from Australia and asked simply: "Will you sign?"

However, many users are suggesting that Sonia's own history suggests she may not be inclined to back a ban on Britain's disgraced TV personality, who was banned from Twitter in 2020 for inciting racial hatred.

"It would make sense if it’s Channel7 the makers of @sunriseon7 & employer of Sonia Kruger, there’s a lot of racist history in Channel7," one user remarked.

Channel 7 is the Australian TV station hosting the Big Brother series.

Another user said: "Kruger is partial to some racism herself, hence why she fits in well with Channel 7."

While a third added: "At least it would be someone for Sonia Kruger to shoot the breeze with over banning Muslims."

Sonia caused controversy in 2016 when she called for a ban on Muslim immigration to Australia. She said on Australia's The Today Show on Channel 9 that she'd "like to see [immigration of Muslim people] stopped now for Australia. Because I want to feel safe, as all of our citizens do".

A Muslim activist in Australia called Sam Ekermawi took her comments to a tribunal case claiming Sonia had racially vilified Muslims, but the tribunal threw out the case, saying Muslims were not technically a "race."

They did add though that the comments "would likely encourage hatred towards, or serious contempt for, Australian Muslims by ordinary members of the Australian population."

The rallying calls for Sonia to get Katie booted out of the country come as thousands of Australian citizens have signed a petition to have Katie removed for breaking lockdown rules.
