Big Brother Germany housemates have no idea about coronavirus - they’ll be told on live TV tonight

Big Brother may be long gone in the UK, but it is still broadcast elsewhere in the world.

One country currently airing a series is Germany, with the housemates currently holed up in the house, oblivious to the panic currently gripping the rest of the world.

The BB stars will be informed about the coronavirus pandemic on live television tonight.

Fourteen men and women completely ignorant to the pandemic will be told about the worldwide crisis through a video link chat with loved ones.

The wannabe reality stars have been cooped up in the Cologne-based purpose built property with no idea about COVID-19.

According to reports, the housemates will be able to ask questions about going forward, which is usually not allowed on the reality show.

Broadcaster SAT.1 decided to break their own rules about contact with the outside world after coming under fire from viewers who were concerned the TV stars hadn't been properly informed about the crisis.

The Mirror Online reports that TV host Jochen Schropp is expected to be accompanied by the resident doctor when they drop the bombshell.

The majority of the housemates have been in isolation since February 6, when news about the virus was only just emerging from Wuhan in China.

Those who have joined the house since then were told not to break the news.

More than 7,000 people in Germany are infected with coronavirus and there have been 14 deaths to date.

Brazil also has a version of Big Brother airing on television amid the pandemic.

Big Brother UK and Celebrity Big Brother, which both moved from Channel 4 to Channel 5 in 2011, were axed for good in 2018.
