And so the summer reality fest goes on, lorded over - in terms of endurance if not ratings - by the rumbling dumptruck of humanity that is the Big Brother house.
Though a little disharmony in the house never did them any harm, even the powers that be seem to be sick of the constant bickering, and seem to have taken to locking the more quarrelsome of the housemates in a "happy room" until they agree to cheer the hell up a bit. As always, it's more fun reading the commentary about it, with Charlie Brooker a genius on the subject. Still, it's not a blog, so we'll not dwell on genius. Also not strictly a blog, but close enough, is Grace Dent's latest brilliant Big Brother diary post, which features some real reader interaction so it's almost-like-a-blog enough to mention this week, though it's fabulous enough to read all the time, obviously.
In the world of actual real blogs, there's general speculation that some housemates cannot possibly be as stupid as they pretend, while Mummy Hazel is proving to be as witty and irreverent - and detailed - in summing up Big Brother as she was in recapping The Apprentice. Meanwhile, over on sister-blog Organ Grinder, we may not be talking about Big Brother all the time, but we're there when it counts. When people get thrown out, mainly.
Speaking of The Apprentice (well, we were a minute ago), the obvious void left by the show ending was soon filled by ITV1's Tycoon. Sadly, though brave folks recapped their hearts out, like those at Did You See That, there could be no escaping the fact that Tycoon was a very poor substitute indeed, as The Stage pointed out. Barely as soon as the series begun, it was lopped from primetime and tucked back into the ITV schedule, reported Off The Telly with unrestrained glee.
The oddest reality news of the week is that Louis Walsh, unceremoniously sacked and replaced as an X Factor judge earlier in the year, has been reinstalled, a few weeks into filming. After a couple of days of puzzled speculation, Unreality TV mentioned that Brian Friedman, Walsh's very short-term replacement, had explained it on his MySpace page. I couldn't read it properly, as it hurt my eyes, so can merely imagine that his removal from the Judge post had something to do with his inability to paragraph properly.
Not quite in the reality TV spectrum, but I just had to mention it: Ian Jones at Digi-cream Times recently spent 24 hours listening to BBC Radio 2. Even though I'm chomping at the bit, narky that I don't have time to do such fun things any more, kudos where it's due - it's a fabulous read, an epic stint, and a gem of bloggingness, so there we are anyway.
