Bielsa to rival Everton for midfielder, Leipzig bank on Augustin cash - latest Leeds United rumours

Leeds United are teetering on the edge of promotion back to the Premier League.

A long-awaited return to the top flight is very much in the grasp of Marcelo Bielsa's men as they prepare to take on Barnsley this season.

With Premier League football looking likely, we have already seen a whole host of names linked with a move to Elland Road.

Here are the latest rumours.

Gojak targeted

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Dinamo Zagreb star Amer Gojak.

Correio Dello Sport say the Whites are in the hunt for the 23-year-old, along with Everton, Atalanta and Fiorentina.

Gojak is an attacking midfielder who played Champions League football with Zagreb this season, scoring twice during the qualifying rounds.

It's claimed Gojak could be available at an affordable fee this summer with two years remaining on his contract.

Leipzig to use Augustin funds for transfers

Leeds United are, of course, looking likely candidates for promotion and RB Leipzig are banking on that fate.

The German side are due to receive £19m from Leeds this summer as part of a purchase option for Jean-Kevin Augustin which becomes mandatory in the case of promotion.

According to Transfermarkt, Leipzig are very much expecting Leeds to honour the deal, setting aside the funds to sign striker Patrik Schick from Roma and playmaker Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen.

Augustin signed for Leeds on loan in January but due to fitness issues and the coronavirus pandemic, he only played three Championship games.

Leeds did reject the option to extend his loan ahead of the restart and the report claims they are hopeful that would remove the mandatory clause to sign him in the case of promotion. but Leipzig are hoping it will stick.

Leeds open Erras talks

Leeds have opened talks with Nurnberg over the signing of Patrick Erras.

That's according to Sport Bild, who say the Whites are in the running for the defensive midifleder who has himself confirmed there is interest from elsewhere.

“There are some clubs from home and abroad that are interested. It will be really exciting," he told Onetz.

Erras made 22 league appearances for Nurnberg in the German second tier this season as they finished third from bottom.

The 25-year-old is 6ft5" and he is a one-club man to-date.
